As oral arguments begin in the Texas v. United States lawsuit, Protect Our Care NV will join Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, SEIU Nevada Local 1107, and the Children’s Advocacy Alliance to call attention to the danger this lawsuit poses and its implications for Nevadans’ health care.
The lawsuit was filed in 2018 by 20 Republican state officials who argued that the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA) is unconstitutional – including protections for pre-existing conditions. This past December, a conservative judge in Texas ruled in favor of the lawsuit and declared the entire ACA invalid. The suit is currently in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, where oral arguments are set to begin on Tuesday, July 9 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Participants will highlight the devastating impacts on Nevada and Nevadans’ health care if the lawsuit ultimately prevails, and reaffirm the need for Nevada officials and representatives to stand up against this partisan war on health care.
