INDIVISIBLE: Impeachment Survey and Events for the Week Ahead 5/30/19
A quick apology for not sending out these newsletters as often as I used to– it’s been hard to stay motivated due to the endless cruelty and stupidity of this administration and its cronies! But we must continue to #Resist and draw hope from what we have accomplished. NVLeg ends soon and they’ve been working late into the night to get bills amended or passed– we’ve had some wins and some losses. Make sure to thank your legislators for passing the bills that you’ve supported! The best resource for updates (in my opinion) has been The Nevada Independent.
Events for the week ahead are below but before you scroll down, please take a minute or two to respond to a poll from Indivisible National regarding Impeachment.
p.p.s. Have you taken the Indivisible Pledge? Take the pledge HERE.
Final Hearing in the Senate – AB 236!
Friday, May 31, 2019 8:00 AM
Grant Sawyer Building: Room 4412E, 555 E. Washington Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101
The final hearing for AB 236 in the Senate Judiciary Committee will be Friday, May 31st, 2019 @ 8am. We need as many people as possible to show up in support of passing this important legislation.
AB 236 is the result of 11,000 hours of studying Nevada specific criminal justice data. From this data, 25 recommendations were submitted which improve responses to people with mental health needs, address sentencing disparities, improve community supervision, and save the state a substantial amount of money, which can then be reinvested into the state.
Red Rage Reproductive Rights Protest Saturday, June 1 at 9:30 AM – 12 PM
Haven Craft: 1228 South Main Street, Las Vegas, NV 89104
Reproductive rights are human rights. No matter your gender identity, genital formation, or gender presentation,
march with us in red to show your support for reproductive justice in the United States and the world.
We will march from Haven Craft at 1228 South Main Street to Las Vegas City Hall at 495 S Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101. The walk is 17 minutes. We will be obeying all traffic laws and peacefully marching, where we will stand in silent solidarity with all those whose lives will be lost or deeply affected by the human rights violations being signed into law across the United States.
Headquarters for the march is inside Haven Craft, where we will gather at 9:30 am.
There will be a water station at the beginning of our journey, with both water bottles and water to use in reusable water bottles, if protesters bring their own. The command center at Haven Craft will have letters to representatives prepared that just require a signature, petitions, and jars to collect donations for Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.
The photo chosen to represent this protest is from a nationwide protest against violence against women (cis and trans), during which Brazilians covered Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro with hundreds of pairs of red and white (with red stains) underwear.
